DAY12
What is the most concerning or destructive thing that is going on right now in your child’s world?
One may say that having ‘unusual’ behavior being ignored is the most concerning. Having physician and family excuse unwanted behavior by saying, this child… “Will get over it…”, “Is going through a phase…”, or. “Has a mental deficiency…”, can be destructive to the child’s overall development.
My hope here is to attempt an explanation of how complicated and every changing the autistic brain can be, by comparing it to an every changing Kaleidoscope.
Shifting within 2 or more contained mirrored surfaces
Repeated succession of stereo pattern reflections
Unpredictable pattern changes, as device rotates
Tilted at an angle, shifting loose pieces of glass
Constantly changing sequence of patterns
Mysterious mosaics of color & light
A complex disorder traversing a developmental spectrum
Life within 2 or more contained mirrored worlds
Repeated stereotypical patterns of behavior responses
Disorder evolves with unexpected changes in development
Sensory environment, tilted at an angle
Constantly shifting continuous sequence of fractious events
Mysterious mosaics of abilities & behaviors

Case-Lo (2014) claims that the causes of autism are not entirely known, but are likely a mixture of genetic and environmental factors. Recent studies suggest that the symptoms of autism may be the result of ‘patches of disorganization’ in the ‘neocortex’ of the brain.
Rafiee, F., et al. (2021) confirm that autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is neuropsychiatric continuum of disorders characterized by persistent deficits in social communication and restricted repetitive patterns of behavior which impede optimal functioning.
In this review of decades of ASD neuroimaging research, they identify the structural, functional, and molecular imaging clues that most accurately point to the diagnosis of ASD vs. typically developing children. Also, point out that early pharmacologic and behavioral interventions that may affect the structure and function of the brain.

Note: DISCLAIMER – Autism ‘intervention’, as with the phrase ‘Early Detection / Early Intervention’, may simply mean to attempt an ‘action’, or attempt to ‘change a course’ or ‘trajectory’ of the person’s autism. Any expectation for a successful ‘change’ must have the cooperation of the participant, the parent, and/or the assigned therapist. Words such as, ‘intervention’, ‘treatment’, ‘therapy’, ‘service’, or ‘program’ imply ‘cure’, or ‘long-term’ positive effect. That is NOT my intention here, and all information is presented without intent or suggestion of status or effectiveness.
